「♚」 ◦     For organics, humans consumed their fuel r e m a r k a b l y like Cybertronians. It had been ENDLESSLY FASCINATING for the sojourners, upon their arrival, to see their own approximate fueling system mirrored in this entirely alien species ; and, indeed, in the majority of large creatures planet-wide. They bit, they chewed their solid fuel, they filtered the liquid between their teeth and they slurped at it to conserve spillage, using lips and atmospheric pressure to funnel it into their mouths.

Optimus had never seen the process r e v e r s e d before. It was… disturbingly violent.

❝ You are UNWELL. I had not realised. ❞

He stepped forward, kneeling beside Leah and reaching out with a cautious servo. A surreptitious scan of her frame revealed an elevated heart rate and unusually high body temperature. Fever, he remembered, was the term. Relatively common, but nothing to be underestimated.

❝ Starscream is going to KNOW as soon as he takes one look at you, ❞  Optimus said, a dark frown drawing his brows low.  ❝ it will not matter whether I tell him or not. ❞

« 🔧 »      Fury flared, but before she could snap back a response, a groan escaped. She held up one hand, the other coming to grip at her abdomen. The fingers hovering in the air shifted to cover her mouth. Her throat constricted once, twice, in a desperate effort to keep herself composed.

Deep breath in, deep breath out. Seven seconds each.

“He hasn’t figured it out yet,” she managed, wiping at her mouth once more. Reaching out, Leah pushed his fingers away. She knew what those servos could do; she knew what abilities they came with, and the last thing she needed was him doing more than just a cursory scan. “’S nothin’, anyways. ‘S just a bug. I don’t need him knowin’ anythin’ more than that.”

She didn’t need them to know how to choked and suffered and tried to breathe. She didn’t need to know how their fuel, their LIFEBLOOD, was the very thing suffocating her. It would kill her eventually, but for now, she had a job to do. And she was not about to let anyone, Prime or otherwise, take that from her.

“’M fine.”
